Mumbai/Delhi/India, October 6: Gold and silver rates rose to new all-time highs today due to Diwali demand, safe-haven purchases during the US government shutdown, Donald Trump's economic policies, and hopes of a US Federal Reserve rate cut.
MCX Gold December futures rose to ₹1,19,928 a 10 grams, while MCX December Silver contracts hit ₹1,47,700 a kg. Overseas, gold exceeded the $3,900 an ounce level for the first time as increased global demand for safe assets pushed prices up.
Gold and Silver as Safe-Haven Investments
Experts say that gold and silver remain reliable safe-haven options amid market volatility. Over the past 20 years, gold prices have risen over 1,200%, from ₹7,638 in 2005 to more than ₹1,00,000 in 2025 (till June), delivering positive returns in 16 of those years. Year-to-date, gold has gained 31%, solidifying its position as one of 2025’s top-performing assets.
Silver has also withstood the test, trading above the ₹1 lakh/kg level in recent months and rising 668.84% between 2005 and 2025.
